Capital: Indianapolis
Area: 36,29a sq. mil including 194 sq. mi. of inland water but excluding 228 sq. mi. of Lake Michigan; 38th in size among the states. Greatest Distances- north-south, 280 miles, east-west, 160 miles. Shoreline -45 miles on Lake Michigan
Elevation: Highest - 1,257 ft above seal level, in Wayne County. Lowest - 320 feet above sea level in Posey County.
Statehood: December 11, 1816, the 19th state
